Hard at work on a new workshop for the Nashville Fashion Alliance!
For this workshop I’ve teamed up with Jake Drum — former tax accountant now providing accounting services to fashion firms — and Cara Jackson — Nashville Fashion Alliance vice chair and business manager for fashion designers and creative companies.
Our fashion brands, like any creative enterprise, were started to make a living using the creative talents of their founders. They weren’t started in order for their owners to become accountants. But understanding the language of business is an important part of running a successful business – even a creative one. We are developing the Accidental Accountant for owners of fashion brands who want their businesses to grow and to become stronger financially.
I’ll be focusing on helping our brands understand the three most important financial scorecards of their business — the balance sheet, income statement, and statements cashflows. Jake will cover the taxes that they are obligated to pay as businesses in Tennessee and how to plan for them. Cara will explore some of the tools that they can use to keep track of their business finances and how to pick the right one for their business.
We’ll be presenting this workshop — part of the Nashville Fashion Alliance’s Fashion Enterprise Fundamentals series — on Tuesday, June 14 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the NFA’s new offices at 521 Gallatin Avenue in Nashville. Yes, right above the Barista Parlor. For more details or to register, just follow this link:
